National Park Foundation Receives $100 Million for U.S. Conservation

NPS Director says the conservation funding “will be felt in our parks and in surrounding communities for generations to come.”

The National Park Foundation announced that the Lilly Endowment is donating $100 million to its conservation efforts. This is the largest financial contribution the National Park Service’s official nonprofit has received since it was established. Congress created the National Park Foundation in the 1960s, allowing the National Park Service to receive donations from Americans to help fund the maintenance of U.S. national parks.

“The impact of this gift will be felt in our parks and in surrounding communities for generations to come,” added National Park Service Director Chuck Sams. “This is a truly visionary investment, and an example of how the power of philanthropy can amplify this crucial work that we all believe in so much.”

This year the Foundation is running its “Campaign for National Parks” in an attempt to raise $1 billion to further conservation efforts. Will Shafroth, the president and CEO of the Foundation, said the funding will likely help restore coral reefs at Biscayne National Park in Florida.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Sams to receive God’s guidance as he heads the National Park Service.
  • For Secretary Haaland as she oversees the Department of the Interior.
  • For the president of the National Park Foundation as he manages the conservation contributions.
